Grilled fruit makes a delicious summer topping for many different dishes such as pound cake, ice cream, and pancakes. Fresh, local fruit in season is the healthiest and tastes the best. Check out the local farmers market. However, if the fruit you want to use isn’t available, you can still use frozen fruit.
A word of warning, however, frozen fruit can produce more
juice when it thaws. So thaw the fruit before cooking and drain the juice
before grilling. You can also drain the fruit before serving, but you’ll drain
more of the fruit juice, butter, and sugar along with it.
Almost all fruits can be grilled. Check out the ideas at the
bottom of this post. But the cooking times will vary with the type of fruit.
For example, peaches and pears take longer to soften and warm on the grill than
berries such as raspberries or blueberries which tend to be more delicate.
How Can You Use Grilled Summer Fruit?
Make it healthier and extra delicious by skipping the sugar.
Instead try cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, maple syrup or lemon juice depending on
the type of fruit and what you plan to do with the topping.
Try various combinations of apples, pears, peaches, oranges
and pineapple. You can include bananas, nectarines, plums, blackberries,
raspberries, blueberries, kiwi, mango, star fruit, strawberries or any of your
favorite fruit. Or just go down to the local farmer’s market and experiment
with the best they have.
For a twist on traditional strawberry short
cake, use pound cake instead of angel food cake, add grilled fruit, whipped
topping and crush a few ginger snap cookies over the top.Best Restaurant in Brussels | Asian Restaurant in Brussels | Vegetarian Restaurant in Brussels
